Spa Day

I tried to write this post last night but was still so away with the fairies, I had to leave it to today. A few hours earlier I had been lounging around in the Agua Spa in the Sanderson Hotel. I decided to treat myself to a pregnancy facial. My wonderful Mother in Law was hanging out with the Cub, I'd done as much writing as I could and now I'm past the three month stage, was finally allowed to step back into a spa again. (Beauty therapists wont even look at you in the first trimester.)
I should have probably guessed that I was going somewhere quite special when I stepped into the lift. Pitch black with a full on holographic space scene. Planets, moons, stars. I was in Space. And then I stepped out into a completely different planet than the one I'd been occupying twenty seconds earlier. I wouldn't have laughed if you'd told me it was heaven. And not in the descriptive sense. The ceilings were higher than my whole house and covered in white floaty fabric through the whole spa. The only colour other than white, was the green of the granny smith apples in enormous bowls, sporadically dotted around. The floors were white, the dressing rooms, the chairs, the orchids, the towels. The waffle robes and swanky slippers - also white...

My treatment room, designed by the very clever Phillipe Stark.

I was so relaxed after ten minutes of just hanging out in the chill out area I could have pretty much gone home then and there and been happy. I then had the facial - lying on a heated water bed- and honestly couldn't speak until an hour later.

I decided to make my day as healthy, wholesome and pampering as possible so went to Leon afterwards and picked up one of my favourite superfood salads. Alfafa sprouts, seeds, broccoli, peas. Pure health - ten points. The only slight problem being in this catatonic state was that all my sense and will power was also left behind in the spa. No way in hell could I possibly resist the lure of Liberty opposite.
To reward myself for leaving the Isabel Marant section empty handed I allowed myself to splash out two balls of beautiful twine and some herringbone weave, pink silk. How times have changed...

My new string from RE Liberty. A blue one might have jumped into my basket too...

Jean Sonnet

I'm completely mesmerised by these art works by French artist Jean Sonnet. His creations are made using every day objects that he has arranged in a 'poetic way'. Sonnet believes that "The value of the objects isn't what matters; it's the visual impact that's important". The coral and feather themed are my faves so far...Definitely feeling a bit of recreation happening later today.

The Flower Appreciation Society

I wish I had some kind of party or big event coming up, purely so I could ask the Flower Appreciation Society to do the flowers. The two owners, Ellie and Anna have a background in illustration and textile design and when they realised their mutual love of flowers decided to set up shop together. They only use English, seasonal flowers and buckets of greenery which gives their arrangements that wild, homegrown look that I just adore.

Below are some of their recent visionary creations.

Lillie Road Antiques

I dont want to jinx things by talking about it but we got one step closer to selling our house today. Major cause for celebration so I headed up to Lillie Road to do a spot of perusing the antiques shops. I fell in love with something in every shop. A Swedish, turquoise and white painted folding dining table in one. A rust coloured, painted French chest in another. We're not quite ready to be buying big pieces of furniture yet so I made do with some beautiful, antique silk spools instead.

I also fell for these divine old jars filled with coloured dyes

If you're planning a visit to Lillie Road, maybe wait until September as lots of the sellers have shut up shop for August.

Style Edit

If I wasn't fast becoming the fattie I am, my pockets would be feeling pretty empty right now. I'm in a proper decline about all the Autumn/Winter visions that I'm not even going to be able to get my toe into. Every day I get a new email alerting me of the new stock arriving. Most upsetting me at the moment are these tartan sensations from Etoile Isabel Marant. Imagine that dress with a black tight and chunky boot...I've decided the only way forward is to concentrate on accessorising instead. Jewels, bags and shoes.

Ten Minutes With...Sophia Rogge

Eco Designer, Coral Crusader and Model

What makes you happy?

My friends laughing. Each of my closest friends have quite distinct laughs and it really makes me giggle when I hear the cacophony of their united cackles!

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

The sunshine.

What annoys you?

My inability to be organised.

If you didn't live in London, where would you live?

In a tree house, and my bed would be built from the trunk of an olive tree around which the house has been constructed a la Odysseus and Penelope.

Current Obsessions?

Ryan Gosling. Ryan Gosling. Ryan Gosling. Ryan Gosling. Ryan Gosling. Ryan Gosling.

And... Coconut water, Fulvic Acid, Twitter, Roasted Beetroot, Orly's Blue Suede nail varnish and the musical genre Swamp Pop.

Describe yourself in three words?

Brown Eyed Girl

What inspires your designs?

Corals. I find their organic patterns and hallucinogenic colours constantly inspiring, each of my collections will always be inspired by corals.

Sophia's cashmere scarf design

Face of LK Bennett, Designer - what's next?

I'll be representing LK Bennett during London Fashion Week in September, the campaign Life is the Occasion has been a really wonderful project to be a part of.

And I'm bringing out a limited edition Valentine's Day sarong with hearts and corals all over it, 10% of the profits will go to Coral Conservation. Plus, I hope to design coral patterns in a collaboration with a dress designer and bikini designer for next summer.

Favourite smell?

Such a hard question for me! I adore so many different smells but I particularly love floral scents and my favourite of all is Dama de la Noche, night blooming jasmine. Its most commonly found in Spain and reputedly keeps mosquitoes away but I just love its strong aroma on a warm summers evening.

Last fashion disaster?

A while ago I wore a slightly too risky red dress to a friend's wedding. A mistake never to be repeated.

What would you eat at your last supper and which five people would be joining you?

Pici pasta, local to Tuscany, with pumpkin sauce and pecorino. Followed by Veal Escalope with Lemon and Sage. And for dessert Vanilla Ice cream with Balsamic Vinegar. I've recently been introduced to drinking some red wines chilled, so I would give my guests a few cooled bottles of Pinot Noir to enjoy over dinner.

Pici Pasta

I would invite my two German grandmothers, both wonderful characters and both of whom I deeply wish I'd know better.

Cath Kidson, I'd like to pick up a few business tips from her.

Isabel Marant, I'd totally suck up to her with the view that perhaps we'd become best friends and she'd gift me all her latest collections.

And of course Ryan Gosling.

Isabel Marant

Who would you love to see wearing one of your designs?

My Dad! No seriously, there are so many women I'd love to see in my designs. The beauty of the sarong is that its one size fits all, there are so many different ways to wear it.

Last impulse buy?

In almost every other area of my life I am impulsive but not when it comes to shopping. I'm cool, calm and calculated when it comes to retail therapy.

Who do you admire?

My mother, she is akin to Wonder Woman.

What makes you laugh?

When I was younger I used to think I was far too sophisticated for toilet humor but as I get older its the sillier jokes that really make me laugh.

What's on your bedside table?

Everything! Jurlique Jasmin handcream, Organic Pharmacy supplement vitamins, Dermaolgica lip balm, Diptyque interior scent: Mimosa, Le Labo perfuming balm: Jasmine, a few Swatch watches, a USB stick and an external hard-drive for my Mac, a photo of my parents from the 90s, a jade figurine of a dog (I was born in the year of the Dog) and a rose quartz crystal, which aids all matters of the heart.

Jasmine Le Labo scent

Top tip for seduction?

A beautiful scent. Smells have an uncanny power to move us. A whiff of pipe tobacco, a long-forgotten scent or a particular perfume can instantly conjure up scenes and emotions from the past... or visions of the woman wearing it. An admirer just bought my favourite scent back from New York for me, Bond no 9: Saks Fifth Avenue. It was a labour of love as the bottle is extremely expensive and it comes in a wonderfully huge box.

Favourite London hangout?

My favourite London hangout is Portobello Road during the week days, as I work from home I try to eat lunch out and there are so many delicious options from street vendors to local restaurants. I buy all my veggies, bread and cheeses from the stall holders. I've lived there for the last 8 years and I still get a bit of a rush when I stroll home down the Portobello Road. I am reminded of the song Portobello Road from Bedknobs and Broomsticks, my favourite childhood film.

Best beauty secret?

Skin Radiance supplement vitamins. You glow from the inside out.
